Yelp recently partnered with Lionfish Modern Coastal Cuisine in Downtown San Diego to host a dinner event. Lionfish recently opened in the Gaslamp. You and your guest were able to order:
– Two shared appetizers from the menu
– One sushi roll from menu
– One entrée each
– A 12oz draft of your choice for each guest or glass of selected wine
This was a generous event that everyone wanted to get in to. So we were happy when we made the guest list.

I’ve visited Fogo de Chao way more times than I’d like to remember. I was there with family just last Mother’s Day for lunch. Service was great but I think I just over-meated out. The salad bar didn’t seem as phenomenal and the plethora of people at the salad bar made it difficult to enjoy. Every mother that ate that day received one complimentary gift card for a free lunch or dinner (until July 7th). V’s birthday was coming up and Fogo de Chao is one of her favorite restaurants. So sis and I decided to treat her here for her birthday this year. We had the free gift card plus I wanted to try their new $15 Gaucho Lunch.

Yelp recently partnered with Le Parfait Paris to offer yelpers a chance to try out the restaurant’s French inspired dishes and pastries. We were given a $25 credit to try anything we wanted from Le Parfait Paris. Making a reservation was easy and confirmation was appreciated via an email sent to us. We visited on a weekend hoping for a brunch meal. Their weekend brunch is popular and runs until 2p or so. We opted for a later meal and was happy to try their sandwiches.
The restaurant is pristine and well maintained. Their pastries and desserts are showcased for you to see when you walk in. You order at the counter, pay, and then seat yourself. There’s also a dog friendly outdoor patio.

I had my Pretty Woman (the movie) moment the other night at the Gaslamp. I guess that could totally be taken the wrong way. I mean Pretty Woman in the sense that you’re told it’s a surprise dinner with a surprise event afterwards. I knew the restaurant was somewhere downtown but that was about it. I was told I had never mentioned this restaurant nor has it ever been written about it on this blog. So I was really surprised when we arrived at Greystone Steakhouse in the Gaslamp as 1) the restaurant was beautiful and 2) I totally mentioned about this place to him some weeks ago.

It was CDJ’s birthday recently and he requested dinner with a small group of friends. It’s no surprise that I tend to be militant when it comes to planning things and that militancy was tested when I gave up that control to one of his friends few years ago. Case in point, CDJ loves steaks, meats, anything non-vegetable. I was planning a big birthday dinner to a steak house and guess who I relinquished that picking-out-a-meat-restaurant control to. His vegetarian friends. Yep. I let his vegetarian friends (who are nice people) pick out a STEAK HOUSE for dinner. So, needless to say, I no longer let others take charge of planning his birthday dinner. So, this year I demanded CDJ to choose a place that HE’S been wanting to go to since he returned to San Diego last year. And wouldn’t ya know it, he requested Fogo de Chao in downtown Gaslamp San Diego. Continue reading Fogo de Chao – San Diego, CA
Rei do Gado
I always go a little bananas when I know I have an AYCE adventure coming up.
I over plan. I over research. I overrrr DO.
Case in point…Rei do Gado for San Diego Restaurant Week. RDG extended their RW for another week 1/26-1/30/2014. Unlike Fogo de Chao, Rei offers lunch on Sunday and therefore their $20 Restaurant Week Lunch deal applies to 1/26/2014. Booyahhh. And unlike Fogo, RDG offers 15 (!!) cuts of meat (vs Fogo’s 9 types of meats) during their lunch service. Yeah…I’m sold. You had me at 15. Sin of gluttony. Those words gave me shivers every time I heard them in church growing up.
Well…I inadvertently sinned last Saturday at Fogo de Chao…
And it was sooooo good (the FOOD, not the actually sinning…right?).
Yelp recently partnered with the newly open Fogo de Chao of San Diego to host a luncheon for a bunch of yelpers. Continue reading Fogo de Chao ( Yelp event + Saturday ramblings) – San Diego (Gaslamp), CA
I’ve been wanting to try the Taste of Downtown San Diego for years now. BUT, I was too cheap to pay for the $30 ticket fee AND the thought of walking all around Gaslamp and downtown really *really* didn’t appeal to me. I wished that I was rich enough to pay one of those scooter guys to take me to each restaurant to sample everything (hey, maybe I should pitch that to the organization?).
But I was lucky enough to win two tickets from Threedogskitchen to try out the Taste of Downtown. I was sooo incredibly happy b/c I rarely win anything.
I’ve been MIA with my friends for the past few weeks so this was the perfect opportunity to catch up with CDJ.
CDJ has known me for some time and he gets my OCD ways and downright kookoo behaviors at times. But I knew he’d be understanding and patient with my ‘strategy’ on how to tackle this Taste of Downtown event. Continue reading Taste of Downtown San Diego 2013 – San Diego, CA
