Facing East (Eight Guys Xiao Long Bao + happy hour) – San Diego, CA

I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to visit Facing East but none of my friends have been wanting to try out this new restaurant. I was in this plaza the other day and decided it was time for me to venture inside the restaurant. I was lucky as they offered happy hour that weekday from 3p-5:30p. Appetizers are 15% off  during happy hours. The parking can be horrendous in this plaza but it was manageable the hour I was there.

Berkeley Pizza (Happy Hour) – North Park

We were in North Park on a weekend trying to look for a place to watch the Dallas Cowboys lose. Almost every sports bar was packed to the brim. We walked past Berkeley Pizza which was completely empty but they had 2-3 tvs playing the game. Friend didn’t really want to try Berkeley Pizza but was swayed when he saw they had happy hour specials. The location isn’t very big but it’s nicely comfortable. They have happy hour everyday from 12p-7p: buy any beer and get a slice of pizza for $2.00.

The Craftsman New American Tavern

We visited The Craftsman New American Tavern some weeks ago. We were looking for a place to have a late brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The weather was perfect and the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway couldn’t have been prettier. The Craftsman New American Tavern is located in Encinitas and had a happy hour menu that appeared to be available on Sundays.

Crust Pizzeria – Torrey Hills, CA

I don’t visit this part of town often but recently discovered Crust Pizzeria in a Torrey Hills strip mall. They make their pizza dough and pizza sauces fresh daily. They also import their 100% fresh mozzarella from Wisconsin. The restaurant also offers salads, sandwiches, and a few entrees. There’s also wine as well as draft beers. Friend told me about Crust Pizzeria as she’s been here many times for lunch and has enjoyed her meals. So we met up some time ago at Crust Pizzeria for me to try them out.

Elbow Room (Weekend Happy Hour) – San Diego, CA

Football has been harder to watch this season because, well, the Chargers suck. More so that they can’t keep a lead and blow the 4th quarter. It’s a miracle they’ve won the last two games but I probably jinxed it right there by typing that. It’s tough finding a restaurant/bar that offers some sort of weekend happy hour when there’s an NFL game on. Elbow Room was a recent find and I must say that I like this cool sports bar. They’re located right next to Sonic and have ample parking. We were surprised they represent the Cleveland crowd and have a section dedicated to their city fans when a Browns game is on. I wonder if there’s a non-San Diego city that have that for the Chargers.

Tidewater Tavern – Solana Beach, CA

How have I never been to Tidewater Tavern in Solana Beach. And how did Cdj find this place before me. The conundrums I face in my daily life. Cdj usually texts me during Sunday service to 1) pay attention to service; 2) stop checking football stats on nfl.com; 3) where are we eating after I’m done. It was one of those perfect mornings where Sunday school kids were amazing and the message at Sunday service hit home for me. So I wasn’t up for debating where and what to eat by the time I was done because I wanted to share the message with Cdj while watching the Chargers whoop Jag’s arse.

Tidewater Tavern is located close to Pizza Port on the Hwy 101. The restaurant does share a private parking lot in the back. There aren’t many spaces. I luckily found a non metered parking space right in front of the restaurant.

Grub Burger Bar – Carmel Mountain, CA

I think a generation of people were heart broken when Oscars left Carmel Mountain. The restaurant was part of the community and many of us had grown up eating their breadsticks, pastas, chicken, etc. We saw signage for Grub Burger Bar but didn’t really give it a second thought. I’m kinda an In N Out burger traditionalist right. I received an invite to try Grub Burger Bar recently. An evening with a new restaurant and some good company makes for a happy girl.

Grub stands for Good people, Real food, Unique vibe and Big flavors. They feature hand crafted burgers made from their signature blend of chuck and brisket meat. A full bar serves local craft beers and a variety of cocktails.

Cusp Dining & Drinks (Happy Hour) – La Jolla, CA

I was meeting a friend and she suggested trying Cusp Dining & Drinks in La Jolla. I visited Cusp years ago and thought the view was fine but the food was meh. They offer happy hour Mon-Sun from 4pm-7pm. The restaurant is located on the 11th floor of Hotel La Jolla. There’s now only a valet parking option so make sure to bring cash. I originally heard it’s $3 with restaurant validation but the nice valet gentleman said the valet fee is now completely covered with the restaurant validation. So kudos there.

R&B Crawfish Lounge

We often talk about the best restaurants to take a first date. I might have just found the place to take her (or him) if you 1) either like her/him alot or 2) want to see her/him patience threshold. More to come on that later. We noticed R&B Crawfish Lounge being built for some time now. They’ve been open for just a few weeks but business seemed slow for whatever reason. I needed a date night (hey, girls need those ok) so friend agreed to try R&B Crawfish Lounge one Saturday evening. They currently have all day happy hour so that’s a great first date bonus right there.

The Cork and Craft (Happy Hour) – Rancho Bernardo, CA

I recently had a staycation at the Rancho Bernardo Inn for my birthday thanks to my dearest friend Tox (post coming soon hopefully). She seems to know Rancho Bernardo well and has made suggestions on places to eat/drink in this area. So I was surprised she didn’t know of The Cork and Craft when I suggested to try them out for happy hour. She loves a good craft beer so she was totally down to visit The Cork and Craft to try out a few of their in house brewed beers (whereas I just wanted to try out the Happy Hour food).
